Suggestions from an Archviz artist

Hello there! Thank you for this amazing app. Just wrote a review 4 you on Apple Store, hope they publish it.

So, as an Archviz artist I’m really happy to find out about Valence and see that you keep updating it. I have a few suggestions that could make your app more friendly for others artists like me. We often need a bit of precision on moving things so most of my requests are related to it .

1- Snapping to other objects and sub meshes like faces or vertex. This would work great if we could also lock axis so we could snap to an object specific axis position ( like 3d max or blender)

2- copy as you move with the possibility to create an array of instances or unique objects. This could be a plus sign button near the move gizmo, if activated you will move as a copy and be able to select how many copies you want and spaced by the initial moving distance

3- Enable the option to edit gizmos of imported photo planes ( I found a work around on this but I’m sure this is simple to do) so we could scale blueprints based on specific anchor point and have a better scale reference when modeling walls for example.

4- Editing the snapping value ( right now we are limited to the grid and sub grid, but sometimes is good to have a specific value easy to set, specially when dealing with architecture plans.

5- lasso selection option to select crossed selections or only inbound elements ( like SketchUp or max)

This is what I missed in Valence till now, I’m being able to do lots or architecture models but those would be wonderful implementations and could help gathering more and more users too.

Planning on creating videos tuts for Valence as well, focused on Archviz probably. I’ll post here when is up!

Thanks for everything.

+1 on (1); really missing being able to snap to surfaces, vertices and edges; was also trying to snap some point along an axis to the grid (for mirroring to work correctly) and was surprised that it wasn‘t supported.

Snapping wise, the other key thing for me would be to snap the pivot to vertices and edges as well.

Wasn‘t totally sure what (5) meant (haven‘t used Max or Sketchup…).

Thank you for the suggestions. Snapping is way better now, so please try it out and provide feedback!

I’ll see what I can do about setting the pivot point for photo references.

I’ll investigate if I can somehow expose snapping intervals for gizmos as well.

Proper lasso selection is on my list too. Its very hard to do performantly…so its another thing I’ll investigate.
