Feature Request: Tweak tool, Edge slide, Lasso select, snapping

Congrats on the new app; been looking for something to replace Silo for what seems like forever, and Valence 3D is feeling like it might fit the bill

In term of tools, there were a couple of bits and bobs that I found myself missing from other apps :

  • Tweak tool: Being able to tweak the point position in screen space without having to go into the transform manipulator would be really handy, particularly for organic models.
  • Edge slide: Slide edge loops around!
  • Bevel/extrude options: Segment / profile shape controls would be great. In terms of shape a few basic options (chamfer, round or just loop) would probably cover most common profiles; a ramp option would be good, but probably a lot of work.
  • Lasso select: A big fan of the lasso select tool in Modo/Lightwave - would be great to have a freeform select tool (the lasso select icon does a rectangular selection confused me a bit  )
  • Poly knife / loop split: Unless I’ve missed it there’s no tool for splitting polygons (edge split just seems to insert a vertex and I couldn’t find a way of inserting an edge).
  • Component Snapping: Would be great to be able to snap components (point to surface/edge etc), as well as snap along an axis. One nice feature in Maya is the ability to snap when scaling, essentially flattening the selection.
  • Brush Tools: Not so much for sculpting, but for pushing or pulling points around (push/pull/smooth). To of a full circle, could possible work as a tweak tool.

There was a few other things, but you already beat me to them in the last release! (particularly the hover support for the Apple Pencil and detachable pivot).

Hope that all makes sense; happy to elaborate if not.

Thank you for the suggestions. I’ve noted them and will try to get some of these features into version 2. Currently fixing bugs.

FWIW snapping is way better now, so please try it if you haven’t already!

Silo, modo, lightwave. These apps should be studied by the Val3d dev. They are the best workflow and logic for modelling.
Even though I switched to blender I really dont like its fundamental workflow. I customized my blender install and it’s practically a new app :joy:

I was an avid Maya & C4D user back in the 2000s. I’ve also used Rhino, Fusion, and Blender. The biggest challenge when building V3D (Valence) is redesigning the UI for touch while keeping complexity low. Valence 3D is design for all people at various skill levels so its quite tricky to implement advance features. But I’m working on it. Currently still fixing crashes.
